Joyce Iola Schneller
Joyce Iola Schneller, age 89, one of the best ladies of the great generation, died peacefully at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie, on Monday, September 10, 2012, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Honey Creek Township on November 21, 1922, the daughter of the late Christian and Erna (Schiess) Sprecher. Joyce attended Little Prairie School and Sauk City High School. On April 20, 1943 she married her soul mate, Reuben Schneller, and they treasured their 51 remarkable years together. Joyce, her husband, and brother-in-law LeRoy and sister-in-law Hazel, farmed in rural Sauk City for 45 years. Joyce spoiled thousands of kids with her cooking skills, as a cook at Black Hawk and Spruce Street Elementary Schools for 34 years. She was a lifetime member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, the church choir, the United Methodist Women, the Witwen Homemakers, her beloved Hilltop Gospel Singers, and a 4H leaderof the Happy Hustlers. She will be dearly missed, as her determination, generosity, compassion and modesty were second to none.
Joyce had a strong faith and truly loved being a Mom, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, a true servant’s heart.
She is survived by four children, Kay (Russ) Hankins, Dennis (Linda) Schneller, Tom (Cheryl) Schneller and Ron (Jean) Schneller; 8 grandchildren, Chad (Joann) Hankins, Tim (Tiffany) Schneller, Lucas (Laura) Schneller, Daniel Schneller, Stacy (Kyle) Williamson, Abby (Jon) Bennett, Matthew Schneller and Paul Schneller; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Walter Elsing and Calvin (Audrey) Schneller; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; a brother, Willard Sprecher; and two sisters, Phyllis Gattshall and Marvel Elsing.
A funeral service will be held at BETHLEHEM UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Black Hawk, at 1:31p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012. Interment will be in the Black Hawk Cemetery. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012, and also at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Thank you to all the friends and relatives that enriched her colorful life, as well as the wonderful staff at The Pines, Pine Villa and Maplewood, that took the time to treat her with dignity, as one of their own.
