Joseph H. Yelk
MONONA/SUN PRAIRIE –Joseph H. Yelk, age 92, passed away on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1922, in Sun Prairie Township, the son of Charles and Martha (Schuster) Yelk. He married Carolyn M. Rutlin on May 18, 1946, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Joe joined the Carpenter Local #314 in 1948 and worked for several local contractors for 36 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4527, and served as the Grand Knight. Joe enjoyed watching sports, ballroom dancing, fishing, and playing cards with friends and family. Joe spent many hours of his time volunteering his assistance with resolving construction issues for his family, friends, neighbors and church.
Joseph is survived by four daughters, Jane Gilberts, Connie, Judy Karls, and Carey (Ralph) Bradley; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn in 2013; brothers, Roger (Marie), Michael (Alice), and Gervas; and niece, Kathy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St, Monona, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
