Joseph Alfred Mott
Joseph Alfred Mott, age 88, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 as the result of a farming accident. He was born in Milwaukee, on September 1, 1924. On June 5, 1948 Joe married Margaret Martin in Baraboo. Joe was a WWII Veteran, after returning from serving in Japan, he moved to Madison, WI and worked at Oscar Meyers for a short period of time before starting his 25 year career with Kroger’s/Piggly Wiggly Grocery Stories. He was the Manager in Dodgeville, Stevens Point and lastly at Richland Center’s Piggly Wiggly.
He and Margaret started farming in 1966 on a farm at the end of Buckhorn Rd in Richland Center. There, they milked cows, raised chickens, sheep, and horses. Joe and Margaret were foster parents for 100’s of children and many still part of their life today. He was a member of the Richland County Board for many years, Dayton Township Chairman for many years, Kiwanis, Mason, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Joe loved to farm but he missed the public life so he bought and managed Dayton Hills Tavern for many years. Joe is well known for his latest venture, Joe’s Bar and Grill, sweet corn, chicken eggs and tom foolery. He loved to snowmobile, bowl, play euchre, ping pong, and yes, still played volleyball with the kids and grandkids. Many a young person learned to water-ski behind Joe’s boat. In May, Joe attended a Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to view the memorials. He highly recommended those who haven’t gone and can do so, to go.
