Johnson says $2 million raised in second quarter

Sen. Ron Johnson says he raised $2 million in the second quarter as he prepares for a re-election rematch against former Sen. Russ Feingold.

Johnson, a Republican who unseated Feingold in 2010, called it his best fundraising quarter this cycle. His campaign says he ended June with $2.75 million on hand.

Feingold, a Democrat, said last week he raised more than $2.2 million after declaring his candidacy midway through the period. He said he expected to have almost $2 million in cash on hand when he files federal reports.

Neither candidate had filed their reports as of Tuesday.

The race is expected to be key for Democrats as they hope to reclaim the Senate in 2016.
