John W. Wood
MIDDLETON-John W. “Jack” Wood, age 78, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg after a long battle with COPD. Jack was born on April 8, 1934 in Janesville, to John R. and Gladys (Wolcott) Wood. He graduated from Portage High School in 1952 and served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean War. Jack worked 40 years as an electrician and has been a member of the IBEW Local #159 for 50 years. He was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed going up north, spending time with his family and friends.
Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth (McMahon) Wood; children, Jed Wood, Lori (Don) Murphy, Toni (Doug) Brown and grandchildren, Riley, Rogan and Braydon Murphy and Declan Brown; a sister, Joanne Coughlin, his in-laws, Robert and Lois McMahon, Jean Michels and their families and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis Wood.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton. In accordance with Jack’s wishes private family services will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Agrace HospiceCare and UW Hospital ICU and Palliative Care.
