MADISON/FITCHBURG – John Vincent Troia, age 66, of Fitchburg, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1950, in Madison, the son of Joseph and Mary Grace (Bastone) Troia. John married Nicolette “Nicki” Weber on May 16, 1970, in Madison. He worked for Gardner Baking Co, as a route salesman for 21 years and was currently employed with Zimbrick Inc. as a dealer trade driver.

John was very involved with the community. He was a member of the 13th Evacuation Hospital Unit of Wisconsin National Guard for 10 years; one of the founding members in 1977 of the Fitchrona EMS, where he was an EMT for 13 years and served on the Fitchrona EMS Commission from 2005-2009; a member of the Italian’s Workmen’s Club, Madison Motorcycle Club, Wisconsin Dual Sports Riders Club, and a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association.

John was a caring and generous person who loved to help the groups he was involved with raise money for community charities. He looked out for neighbors and helped them whenever he could. As an avid motorcyclist for 50 years, he loved riding and helping to organize events so that others could ride. John was an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed anything to do with hospitality and talking to people. He had a special love for dogs, past and present and developed a special bond with his granddog, Jake.

John is survived by his wife, Nicki; daughter, Angela Troia; son, Nathan (Liz) Troia; granddaughters, Isabel, Emily and Ava; brothers, Sal (Judy) Troia, Joe (Sharon) Troia, and Jack (Pam) Troia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at ALL SAINTS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2951 Chapel Valley Rd, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, with the Rev. Richard Johnson presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in John’s name to All Saints Lutheran Church, Fitchburg or a charity of the donor’s choice.

John will be missed by his family and many friends, but his spirit will live on.
