Joanne Beth Kuehni
MADISON- Joanne Beth Kuehni, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 on her 90th Birthday.
She and her twin brother were born on April 12, 1927, in Madison. Jack, the perfect gentleman, let Joanne be born first. She was the daughter of Gilbert and Ramona (Kitelinger) Voeck.
Joanne and Norman “Bud” Kuehni, high school sweethearts, were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madison. She graduated from Madison East High School where she received awards and recognition for her proficiency in shorthand, as well as a proud member of the Checker Club. Joanne ushered her skills into the work force, excelling as a secretary, typing 140 words per minute, she would then advance to managerial secretary positions. She built successful careers at many different establishments, such as, Montgomery Wards in Des Plains, Ill., Mitre Corporation in McLean Va., and St. Paul Companies in St. Paul, Minn. Joanne was known for her fabulous cooking and preparing many meals for family gatherings.
Joanne was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, always remembering birthdays, graduations, and marriage anniversaries. She enjoyed traveling with Norman, whether across the United States in an RV, or across oceans. The two shared a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii, and saw the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, during a fabulous tour of Switzerland, West Germany, Liechtenstein and Austria. Joanne was a charter member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Monona, she remained an active contributor in the development and progression of the parish, assisting primarily in funeral luncheons. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. For years she lent her helping hands to St. Mary’s Hospital and was a past member of the Eastern Star and the Christian Women’s Club.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 68 years, Norman; daughters, Kathleen Ann (Chuck) Porta of Eden Prairie Minn., Barbara Dawn Kuehni of Manassas, VA., and Pamela Jo (Paul) Kuehni-Beke of Bristow, VA.; nine grandchildren, Carolyn Porta, Christine Erickson, Debby Porta, Dan Porta, Michael Kuehni, Matthew Beke, Katie Beke, Chrysty Rector and Amber Johnson; as well as 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, David Voeck, Donald Voeck and twin Jack Voeck.
Funeral services will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Rd., Monona, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, with Rev. Elisa Brandt presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitaion will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Joanne to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg 53711, or Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate and professional care, and to those who cared for Joanne at St. Mary’s Hospital.
