JoAnn Brennan

OREGON-JoAnn Brennan, age 76, of Oregon, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on May 24, 1936, in Mosel, the daughter of the late Edgar and Lorena Sommer. Jo was a beloved wife to R. Michael Brennan for 53 years, and an amazing mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Clarice) of Vine Grove, Ky.; two daughters, Linda Brennan of Lake Mills and Tammy (Greg) Kritz of Waunakee; two granddaughters, Leya and Alicia; two grandsons, Chris and Jason; and a great-grandson, Caleb. Jo graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1954, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from UW-Stout in 1958. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Her favorite place in the world was at the family cabin in Conover, with family and friends. Everyone was always welcome and they knew they would get excellent food and would probably get beat in cards. She was the glue that kept the family together and made friendships last for decades. Quilting and sewing were Jo’s passions. She taught Home Economics at Saint Paul Park, Minn. and also in the Milwaukee Public School System. She also taught Clothing Construction part-time at the Milwaukee and Madison Vocational Technical College. Jo did custom sewing and made beautiful hand-stitched quilts that will be treasured by her family. She loved traveling with her husband, watching her granddaughters sporting events, and teaching her granddaughters to sew, read and cook. Jo was a member of Oregon People’s Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW Woman’s Auxiliary, and was previously a member of the Oregon Woman’s Town and Country Club.
