Joan M Emmerich
MADISON – Joan Elizabeth (McCann) Emmerich, age 85, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare after a brief illness.
Joan was born to John and Alice (Murray) McCann on February 25, 1929 in Janesville, Wisconsin. She married Jerome (Jerry) Emmerich on April 19, 1952. They were married for over 50 years until his death on December 3, 2003.
Joan’s proudest accomplishment was her family and she was a wonderful mother and grandma to her six children and their families, including fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Ken (Barb) Emmerich and their children Jay and Julie; Bob (Jane McNett) Emmerich and their daughter Brittany; Carol (Bruce) Randels and their children Ben (Michelle) Moen, Katie Moen, Adam (MarCharia) Randels, Ben Randels and 5 grandchildren ; Dick (Kathy Piech) Emmerich and their children Tony and Natalie; Mary (Don) Greuel and their children Kelly, Karen (Alex) Swanson, Marie and Nathan; Bill (Laurie) Emmerich and their children Elizabeth and Brad.
Joan is also survived by her sisters, Kathleen McNally, Barbara Darcey, Mary Lou Hainstock, and her brother Richard (Roberta) McCann, sister-in-laws Mary (Vince) Fonti, Janet Emmerich, brother in-law Bill West and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Jerry, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Melvin McCann.
Joan graduated from Edgewood College and worked at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison for 36 years as a Medical Technologist and Laboratory Supervisor.
She was an active and devoted member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish Community in Madison for over 60 years. She especially enjoyed her involvement in the Rosary Altar Society and was known for her cooking and special care for funeral meals, senior lunches or any event that needed a special touch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2131 Rowley Avenue, Madison, at 11:00AM on Monday, November 17, 2014, Father Steve Kuhlmann officiating. A visitation will be held at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, from 2:00PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, November 16, 2014 and again at the church from 10:00AM until time of the Mass on Monday. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
The outpouring of love and support expressed by the Blessed Sacrament and Saukdale Communities and the family and friends who shared in her life has been genuinely appreciated and humbling to our Mom, and to all of us. The family also wishes to thank the staffs of Meriter Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare for the compassionate and loving care that was given to our mother.
Our Mom’s strength and faith has guided and comforted all of us.
