Jerome J. “Jerry” Sergent
OREGON/BROOKLYN-Jerome J. “Jerry” Sergent, age 47, of Brooklyn, passed away at home on Monday, March 27, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1970, in Madison, the son of Judy Finberg and Jerry J. Ackerman. He graduated from Stoughton High School, then served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm from 1989-1991. Jerry married Angela Smith on March 9, 2017, in Madison. He was an electrician and worked many years for Schultz Electric. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his sons, especially coaching them in baseball and football, hunting, and doing just about anything outdoors. He also loved Badger sporting events and spending time with his family.
After Jerry’s diagnosis with Sarcoma Cancer in 2009, he became actively involved with Gilda’s Club, and volunteered at Agrace HospiceCare and Camp Kesem-UW-Madison.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Angela; sons, Mason and Tanner; step-son, Devin Friedrich; step-daughter, Alana Friedrich; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather, Frank Ackerman; and grandmother, Regina Ackerman.
A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held during a Memorial Gathering at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with Military Honors being conducted at 7 p.m., on Friday, March 31, 2017.
