Jefferson man arrested following home invasion, car chase in Richland Center
RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. — A Jefferson man was arrested following a home invasion and car chase in Richland Center Wednesday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the man was taken into custody after a report of an armed man involved in a home invasion that led to a brief chase.
Officials said the investigation began with a report of a man who pointed a handgun at another person who was backing out of the driveway in their vehicle. The vehicle’s driver told police that he thought he was being “carjacked.”
Police received a call shortly after that a man broke into a home, confronted a resident and rode away on a motorcycle.
Authorities said the suspect’s description matched the person involved in the previous incident.
Officials said they later found the man on his motorcycle, but he tried to escape at fast speeds. When the chase ended, authorities identified the man as Shane P. Harsha, 49, who was found possessing a handgun.
Harsha was taken into custody without further incident and was arrested on tentative charges of fleeing and eluding an officer, being armed with a firearm while intoxicated, criminal trespass and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
Harsha was also cited for a first offense of operating while intoxicated, operating without a valid motorcycle endorsement and failure to stop at a stop sign.
