Jayne R. Schambow, 57, of Dubuque formerly of Platteville, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, after a battle with myeloma cancer surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Melby-Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jayne R. Schambow Memorial Fund.

Jayne was born on April 16, 1956 in Platteville, daughter of Darlene (Chapman) and the late Robert ‘Bob’ Schambow. Jayne graduated from Platteville High School in 1974, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1978 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa earning a law degree in 1981. After graduation she was employed at the Public Defenders’ Office in Waterloo, Iowa. In 1983 she moved to Dubuque, Iowa to establish the Public Defenders’ Office. Jayne was an officer of the Dubuque County Bar Association, serving on various committees and President of the Mental Health America of Dubuque County. At the time of her death Jayne was a Public Defender 2 with the Department of Inspection and Appeals in Dubuque County.

Jayne enjoyed attending and following all of her nieces and nephews in their school activities.

Jayne is survived by her mother, Darlene, Platteville and 7 siblings Judy (Art) Temby of Avoca, WI; Jean of Platteville, Jim (Brenda) of Linden, WI; Joy (Michael) Oliverio of Yucaipa, CA; Joe (Luanne) of Platteville; Janet (Mark) Stecklein of Platteville and Julie of Platteville, 14 nieces and nephews, Christopher(Brooke), Tina, Aaron(Christine), Jamie, Samantha(Ben), Chase, Hayley(Jake), Ryan, Tyler, Derek, Cody, Brock, Tess, Morgan ; 6 great-nieces and nephews Cordell, Lizabeth, Parker, Brealyn, Brogan, Madyson and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunt, uncle-in-law, and cousins.
