Janice W. Austin, 95, of Platteville died on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Cuba City.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Janice W. Austin Memorial Fund. Janice was born on September, 12, 1916 in Clifton Twp., Grant County the daughter of William and Winifred (Millard) Witzig. She was united in marriage to Orville Austin on March 17, 1937 in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1987. She and Orville farmed in the Platteville area for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and was known for her baking and cooking. Janice always enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by five children, Phyllis (Jerry) Cook of Platteville; Judy Harling of Platteville; Jim (Donna) Austin of Platteville; Elaine Welch Austin of San Francisco, CA; Lyle (Jim Reiser) Austin of Clay City, KY; fifteen grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Witzig of Fennimore. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Jay Harling, son-in-law, Jim Harling, grandson-in-law, Bruce Lancaster; sisters, Zoa Novak, Henrietta Smith, Marion Fehrman, brothers, Joe, Paul, Charles and Ned Witzig.
