Janice May Magnuson
MOUNT HOREB/VERONA – Janice May Magnuson, age 87, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 at Ingleside Manor.
She was born on April 24, 1932, in Township of Perry, the daughter of Otto and Norma (Tvedt) Nelson. She married Russell Magnuson on April 18, 1951, in Perry Lutheran Church.
Janice and Russell raised their family on their dairy farm located just outside of Mount Horeb. She also worked as a guide at Little Norway, at the Gonstead Clinic, and at Mueller’s Cheese Factory during the Christmas rush. Janice was a member of the Springdale Lutheran Church where she was known as the head soup maker for the church. She was also known for her cooking, baking, sharing the canned goods from her vegetable garden harvests and her pride in her Norwegian heritage. She was an excellent seamstress and could sew anything. Janice was a garage sale queen who never turned down a water fight, loved jewelry and enjoyed going camping with husband, Russell. She played on couples/women’s teams and took great pride in playing on the men’s Sugar River Euchre team where she was feared by most. Janice was a loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma who will be dearly missed by her family.
Janice is survived by her children, Don (Mae) Magnuson, Mary (Leo) Humphrey and Tom (Penny) Magnuson; five grandchildren, Brenda (Shawn) Hagedorn, Chad (Kari) Humphrey, Ben (Linda) Magnuson, Paul (Cassie) Magnuson and Shane Magnuson; six great-grandchildren, Ava and Julia Magnuson, Emmi and Ty Hagedorn and Chloe and Nathan Humphrey; sisters-in-law, Linda Nelson, Sharon Nelson and Jan Starr; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Magnuson, who passed in June 2005; parents, Otto and Norma Nelson; in-laws, Mae and Bernhard Magnuson; infant brother, Ansel; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Walter Volden; and brothers, Ronnie and Richard Nelson.
A funeral service will be held at SPRINGDALE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2752 Town Hall Road, Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, with the Rev. Loren & Linda Schumacher presiding. Burial will be held at Springdale Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church at 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
