Janice M. (Coulthard) “Jan” Hancock


Janice M. (Coulthard) “Jan” Hancock, age 76, of Evansville, WI (formerly Shullsburg, WI) passed away on the 19th of September 2022 at home. She was born on the 14th of August 1946 in Shullsburg, WI to Martin and Audrey (Ingram) Coulthard. She attended country school and graduated from Shullsburg High School. On the 9th of March 1968, she married Ronald A. Hancock (Shullsburg) and had two children, Tammy M. and Brian W. She had careers at Dun & Bradstreet, Farmers & Merchants Bank, and a medical transcriptionist with her last position being at Stoughton Hospital until her retirement. She enjoyed doing Arts and Crafts, including running her own ceramic shop for many years in Shullsburg and instructing 4-H members for Lafayette County Fair projects. She would go on to explore many other crafts, with her last passion being quilting, which she was still giving advice on the last week of her life with one of her final projects was making quilts for all of her nine grandchildren, other family, and friends. She, at her core, was an artist and a teacher.

She is survived in death by her daughter, Tammy, and her husband, Yaw (Evansville) along with their four children, Trent (Maria) of Portland, OR, Ashley of Madison, WI, Michael (Sarah) of Wauwatosa, WI, and Cody of Boston, MA. Her son, Brian W and with his children, Brett of Madison, WI, Emily of Champaign, IL, Janse Sooley of Urbana, IL, Jeremy Sooley of Fort Bragg, NC, and Anna Sooley of Champaign, IL. Along with the Original Coulthard seven, her six siblings, Laura Lynn (Roger) Olson of Blanchardville, Donna (David) Brown of Monroe, Joyce Coulthard of Juda, WI, Sherry (Ronald) Woodworth of Shullsburg, WI, Roger (Kathy) Coulthard of Stockton, IL, and Michelle (Ronald) Stauffer of Monroe, WI. Along with her very special cousin, Sue Cashman of Darlington, WI. Her brother-in-law Jerry (June) Hancock of Darlington, WI and brother-in-law Greg Cyborski of Tennyson, WI. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Ronald. Her parents-in-law, Arthur & Audrey (Edge) Hancock, and her sister-in-law Donna (Hancock) Cyborski.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Centenary United Methodist Church (226 W. Church St., Shullsburg) with Rev. Maria Kim officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Centenary United Methodist Church.
