Janesville report of domestic disturbance likely swatting incident, police say
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A Janesville pair were the target of a prank call that brought police officers to their home Thursday morning, police said.
The Janesville Police Department said officers responded at about 8 a.m. to the 400 block of Harding Street for a report of a male and female involved in a disturbance. A gun was reportedly seen.
Police said the area was secured and officers made several attempts to make contact with the people inside, but there was no response.
Officers entered the home and found two people inside, according to the report. No gun was found.
The occupants told police there were no problems and no disturbance, officials said. They said they’ve been the victims of harassment.
According to the report, information gathered as of Thursday indicated the incident was a “swatting” call, which is a prank meant to draw police to respond to a fake incident.
The police department said information was being investigated regarding the matter and no arrests have been made.
