Janesville Police Arrest Man On 5th OWI Charge

Janesville police said they arrested a man early Sunday morning on a charge of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated.

A Janesville police officer saw a Ford Expedition operating without its headlamps on and speeding at about 2:20 a.m. on Centerway Street.

Police said the Expedition crossed the center line on two occasions and nearly struck a Rock County sheriff’s deputy driving in the opposite direction.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer made contact with the driver, who smelled of alcohol, the Janesville Police Department said in a news release.

The driver, Marvin A. Dawson, 30, of Beloit, was given field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, police said.

Janesville police said Department of Transportation records showed Dawson has four prior OWI convictions. He was transported to the Rock County Jail, where he is currently being held.
