Janesville PD asks public’s help in damaged SUV, vehicle break-in investigations

Investigators seek to ID figure from video

Investigators released surveillance video of a person suspected in car break-ins last month in a Janesville neighborhood.

The Janesville Police Department said officers responded at 6:33 a.m. on Feb. 20 to the Janesville Commons Apartments in the 3000 block of LaMancha Drive for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Police said a red Ford Escape SUV was found in the yard of the apartment building with extensive damage to it. The SUV appeared to have been involved in numerous hit-and-run crashes in the area of Doubletree and Meadowlark drives.

Police posted a surveillance video to its YouTube page Wednesday showing the person suspected in the incidents.

Police said officers believe the same person broke into several cars in the area.

Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the Janesville Police Department at 608-755-3100 or CrimeStoppers at 608-756-3636. Citizens can also download the free “P3 tips” app from the Apple store or Google Play store to submit crime tips anonymously.
