Janesville council to vote on Monterey Dam
JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Janesville City Council will vote on whether to remove the Monterey Dam Monday night.
Council members are also considering long-time Janesville resident Gary Schultz’s offer of $200,000 to repair the dam.
The city estimates repairing the dam would cost a total of $700,000.
The state Department of Natural Resources said the dam needed to be repaired after finding structural deficiencies.
The Citizen Advisory Committee recommended the dam be removed.
If the council accepts Schultz’s offer, the city would not be taxed and it would be classified as a donation.
The Janesville City Council will meet at 6 p.m.
