Jana Lynn Rupnow

Jana Lynn Rupnow

Jana Lynn Rupnow, age 57, died on Monday, March 5, 2017 at her childhood home in Blanchardville, WI.

Born on December 5th, 1959, she was the fourth child of Bill and Jane (Lageson) Rupnow.

Jana attended Blanchardville Elementary School and Pecatonica Area High School, graduating in the class of 1978. She attended college for a short time at the UW-Madison.

Jana was a sensitive soul with a free spirit and a sharp wit. She loved all animals and would bring home any orphaned critter that crossed her path. She loved gardening and tending to flower beds, most recently at her childhood home while being a companion to her mother, Jane. Jana had the greenest thumb of anyone and could revive even the sickest, smallest plant.

While Jana had struggled in the past few years, she remained an artistic individual, expressing her creativity through photography, painting and drawing. She was a professional photographer for both Swiss Colony in Monroe and for Land’s End in Dodgeville and enjoyed taking pictures of her favorite dogs – Bones and Ruby – as well as family and friends. She also painted portraits of people that she knew and received the Governor’s award for a painting while in high school, taking a trip to the capital with her parents to receive this award.

Jana always said she was born too late and would have liked growing up as a young woman during the 60’s. She loved the music, the clothing and the attitude. She had a thirst for knowledge and was always reading or researching some new topic.

Jana is survived by her 3 siblings – James Rupnow of Monroe, David (Marlene) Rupnow of Oconomowoc, and Vicki (Bob) Meyer of Seal Rock, OR; her nieces – Pamela Rupnow, Valerie (Greg) Hackbart, Debra (Brett) Brever, and Janey Moen; nephew Thomas (Abby Hugg) Moen; aunts – Ruth Vamstad, Vivian Lageson, Kay Lageson, Rosella Lageson, and Joan Rupnow; uncle Gary (Ruth) Rupnow; and 6 great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friend, Rick Dal Porto (Carol Stream, IL). Jana was preceded in death by both of her parents, whom she missed dearly.

A visitation will be held at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Blanchardville on Saturday, March 11th from 10am – 12pm. Jana will be missed by all who knew her kind heart. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to the Dane County Humane Society in Jana’s name.
