Jan M. Natvig

Jan M. Natvig

MADISON-Jan M. Natvig, age 62, of Madison, passed away following a brief illness on Friday, April 28, 2017, at UW Hospital with her loving family by her side.

She was born on May 5, 1954, in Madison, the oldest of seven children to Marcus and Beverly (Jacobson) Roelke.

Jan graduated from Waunakee High School in 1972 and earned a Medical Laboratory Technician degree from Madison Area Technical College. She spent many enjoyable years working in the Laboratory Department at the Monona Grove Clinic.

Jan was united in marriage to Paul Natvig on Oct. 6, 1979, and they were blessed with two children, David and Emi.

Jan enjoyed spending time with her family, working on and around the house, knitting, boating on Monona Bay, baking, and volunteering for the community. She found great joy in working with students to improve their literacy at Franklin Elementary School and knitting hats to donate to Koats for Kids.

Jan will be remembered for her sharp, offbeat sense of humor and her devotion to friends and family. Because it was important to her to keep in touch with those she loved, she regularly wrote letters to family and friends as far away as Norway and France.

Jan is survived by her husband, Paul of 37 years; son, David (Alder Swanson) Natvig; daughter, Emi (Kyle Davis) Natvig; parents, Marcus and Beverly Roelke; sisters, Cheryl (Jim) Hanson, and Mary (Tom) Curwick; and brothers, Mark (Kathy) Roelke, Dan (Jayne) Roelke, John (MaryAnne) Roelke and Paul (Jen) Roelke; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017. Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Elementary School Endowment Grant. Please specify that your donation go to the Franklin Elementary School Library to honor Jan’s work with students and literacy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the UW Hospital medical staff for their care and compassion.
