SUN PRAIRIE – James W. Scheel, age 83, died on Tuesday, August 14 at Meriter Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on March 11, 1929 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Carl A. and Evelyn (Faas) Scheel. He married Billie Chlo Olson on June 4, 1952 in Ogden, Utah, celebrating 60 years of marriage earlier this summer.

Graduating from La Crosse Central High School, Jim attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950, served in Korea at Chinhae Air Base and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BBA Degree in 1959. He was Personnel Director of Red Dot Foods and later of Madison General Hospital. He was named Assistant Administrator there in 1968. He received his Masters of Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1972. Fulfilling a lifelong goal to improve the lives of others, he served as Administrator for Community Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls, Rusk County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in Ladysmith and President of Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center in Sheboygan until his retirement in 1987. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Hospital Association.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Billie and five children, Cindy of Sun Prairie; Curtis (Cynthia) of Annapolis, Maryland; Terri of Sun Prairie, Cameron (Donna) of Cibolo, Texas; Steve of Deerbrook, and grandchildren, Stephanie, Jameson, Jaydan, Ryan and Ryan Medley and Reid Medley. He is further survived by two brothers, Carl (Catherine) of West Branch, Michigan and John (Mary) of Holmen.

Jim’s life will be celebrated at Ryan Funeral Home in Deforest at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 18th.
