James R. “Jim” Simpson
MADISON-James R. “Jim” Simpson, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, after longtime health problems. He was born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Galena, Ill., the son of Benjamin T. and Mary C. (Ryan) Simpson. He graduated from East High School in 1945, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 until 1946. Jim married Sandy Johnston on Aug. 18, 1974, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Jim was a carpenter and foreman for Jacobson Construction, and later went on to own and operate Simpson Construction Company for many years. He was a member of 4 Lakes Yacht Club for 56 years. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed downhill skiing, and continued boating, and snowmobiling throughout the years. He also was an avid reader and loved building model airplanes and boats, woodworking, gardening, and was an excellent cook.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Sandy; son, Chuck Simpson; sisters, Vina (Al) Kline and Helen (Kerry) Kreisler; brother, John; and nieces and nephews, Michelle, Mark, Bruce, Kirk, Kerry, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bob and Don.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
Memorial services will be held at the funeral home, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, with Sister Pamela Moehring presiding and military rites being conducted. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or St. Mary’s Renal Center.
