DEFOREST, Wis. — Barbara and James Carter went to rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord. Barbara Jean (Plein) Carter born April 6, 1934, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. James Frank Carter, born Jan. 7, 1937, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017. Barbara and James have been long time residents of DeForest. They were happily married for 52 years. Barbara and James leave behind four children, Debbie (Bruce) Westphal of De Forest, Nancy (Mike) Hyland of Franklin, Cindy Weidenbeck (Dean) of Marshall and Gary Gilbertson of Stoughton; their oldest grandchild that was like a daughter to them, Jenny (Elliot) Franklin of DeForest; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren and their favorite Grand-Dog, Romeo. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Eva “Sandy” and Jim Dale of Madison. James was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Olga Carter of Mazomanie; and sisters, Mary Ellen and Cora. They will also be dearly missed by their many friends. Although our parents left us much earlier than expected, we will always remember the many happy times we spent with them. Spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were their happiest times. Per our parents request, a private family service will be held. We thank you for all your many prayers. As difficult as it is for the sudden loss of both our parents, they are together now and that is what was important to the both of them and all of us.
