Iowa County Authorities Seize Marijuana, Aircraft
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department said it seized an aircraft with drugs on board Saturday.
At about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an aircraft landing at the Iowa County Airport with drugs on board. When deputies arrived, they saw an aircraft matching the description leaving the airport.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped the aircraft on the runway and a K-9 officer indicated that the plane contained drugs, according to a news release from the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Steven Michek said in a news release that deputies discovered about 150 pounds of marijuana in the plane and some cash. Authorities estimated that the marijuana has a street value of $675,000.
Authorities said the pilot, Trevor K. Ryan, 29, of Ukiah, Calif., was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
Authorities said Ryan was held at the Iowa County Jail on felony charges and has since been transferred into the custody of federal agents.
