Inmate attacks prison guard with shank, sheriff says
BOSCOBEL, Wis. — An inmate in Grant County is facing an attempted homicide charge after he attacked a prison guard Monday morning, officials said Thursday.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at 8:53 a.m. to the maximum security Wisconsin Secure Program Facility on Morrison Drive in Boscobel on Monday.
According to the report, 47-year-old Dexter Ewing, an inmate at WSPF, attacked a 42-year-old correctional officer with a shank, a homemade edged weapon.
Ewing attempted to stab the officer in the neck in an attempt to kill him, the sheriff’s office said. The victim and another correctional officer were able to disarm Ewing before he was able to cause serious injury to the victim. The victim was taken to Gunderson Hospital in Boscobel for treatment of his injuries, which included a wound on his neck and face. He was treated and released.
The sheriff’s office said Ewing will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney’s Office for a charge of attempted homicide.
