Indiana man on trial for 1994 murder of Madison woman pleads not guilty
MADISON, Wis. – An Indiana man on trial for the 1994 murder of a Madison woman has pleaded not guilty, according to court documents.
Willie Coleman, 52, is accused of murdering 40-year-old Lula Cunningan on Madison’s west side 25 years ago. Officials say she was strangled and run over by a car. There were signs of sexual assault.
In 2015, the State Crime Lab was able to match evidence from Cunningang’s sexual assault kit with Coleman. Police arrested him in November.
His final pre-trial hearing is set for February 14.
