In the 608: Pink flamingos return to UW-Madison’s Bascom Hill

MADISON, Wis. – Flamingos have returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Bascom Hill for the annual Fill the Hill event.

The tradition began as a prank back in 1979 when students covered Bascom Hill with 1,008 pink plastic flamingos.

The university now invites people to donate to support its needs, adding one flamingo to the flock with every gift received.

For every $250 gift, UW will send a collectible plastic lawn flamingo to your home. This year it will be a special-edition red flamingo, part of the school’s celebration of the All Ways Forward campaign, a university funding campaign beginning in 2016.
