In the 608: How you can help pack the truck with ‘KOATS FOR KIDS’
MADISON, Wis. – There’s a few things that haven’t changed with the pandemic, and in some ways, have only gotten worse.
Many people are still in need of basics like food, shelter and here in Wisconsin, coats during the winter.
Every year, News 3 Now takes action to help families stay warm with ‘KOATS FOR KIDS.’ Last year, News 3 Now, Klinke Cleaners and the Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin collected 6,000 coats.
While the economy has started to come back from the height of the pandemic, there are still so many people still in need this winter.
The latest data from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development shows the state’s unemployment rate is around 3.9%. According to the United Way, just here in Dane County alone, more than 60,000 people live in poverty. That’s one in seven residents, including one in six children.
Here’s how you can help; until 6:30 p.m. Friday night, you can drop off gently used coats at the Klinke Cleaners location at 1003 N. Gammon Rd.
We accept coats of all sizes, but we’re really in need of coats for kids right now. We’re going to try and pack a CACSCW truck in the parking lot.
All donated outerwear will be cleaned FOR FREE by Klinke Cleaners and distributed by the Community Action Coalition For South Central Wisconsin, Inc. on October 28th through 30th. Location and time will be announced as soon as they become available.
