MADISON, Wis. – A local boat landing is using empty water softeners as buoys to raise awareness about water quality. They’re painted with messages on how people can be better about local waterways.
Water softeners have made an appearance on Lake Wingra to raise awareness that the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District wastewater treatment plant can’t remove water softener salt.
It’s an initiative Tyler Leeper of Madison Boats is all for since the lake quality is of high interested with his local business.
It’s all through a partnership with Wisconsin Salt Wise, which focuses on salt reduction and water quality.
Local officials say it’s so important tackle water quality issues in our local lakes, especially as we wrap up the summer.
As we approach the winter months, experts also stress the importance of where people should be mindful of salt use.
