In-person absentee voting for August partisan primary starts Tuesday

MADISON, Wis. — It is officially election time in Madison. In-person absentee voting begins tomorrow for the August 9 primary elections.

Voters have several locations to choose from when casting a vote, but there are some things to remember before heading to the polls.

In-person absentee voters must have an acceptable photo ID for voting in Wisconsin. Those registering for the first time or updating their registration will also need to bring proof of residence.

Voters who have moved since the last time they voted can register at a voting location but need to have moved to the new address on or before July 12. Voters must also bring proof of residence with their current name and address listed. Acceptable proofs of residence include a utility bill issued within the last 90 days, a paycheck, or a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or identification card.

A full list of acceptable documents can be found on the city’s website.

If you’re returning an absentee ballot requested by mail, the completed ballot needs to be returned to an in-person absentee voting location, not the Madison Clerk’s Office.

Madison uses the ExpressVote ballot-marking device for in-person absentee voting, due to having multiple ballot styles citywide. Once the day’s voting shift is over, ballots are taken to the Clerk’s Office in a courier bag with a tamper-evident seal.

You can find Madison’s voting locations listed below. Per state law, voter registration is not available on August 6 and 7.
