Icy mix slows commute, delays classes
MADISON, Wis. — An icy mix of precipitation has delayed the start of school in some districts and is expected to slow the Monday morning commute.
News 3 meteorologist Haddie McLean said an area of low pressure will move through the region Monday, bringing a mix of precipitation to southern Wisconsin. Light snow, sleet and freezing rain will make untreated roads slippery for the morning commute.
Madison Streets Division crews have been our salting our main arterial roads, main connector streets, Madison Metro bus routes and streets around the hospitals. As of 6 a.m., the arterial roads are considered to be in good winter driving condition. Residential streets are icy and slippery.
Thirty salt trucks and and eight sanders are out in Madison.
There is a chance for light rain or drizzle this afternoon as temperatures warm above freezing. Highs will reach the upper 30s.
