Wisconsin bureau warns shoppers to be careful buying Bucks gear online
MILWAUKEE (WKBT) — With the Milwaukee Bucks snagging the NBA championship, shoppers are on the hunt for Bucks merchandise and scammers are poised to take advantage of them.
The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau warned shoppers Wednesday that they should research online websites and steer clear of scammers selling counterfeit merchandise.
Scammers have created fake websites to offer apparel and other sports memorabilia at unbelievably low prices and claim its licensed merchandise. If people receive anything, it’s cheap knock-offs with glued-on logos, misspelled player names or messed-up dimensions. One Appleton consumer complained to BBB, “It was a bad fake jersey that was unwearable–the neck hole was too small for any human to put their head through it.”
The BBB offered some tips to protect yourself, including be wary of any deals that seem too good to be true, shop with a credit card with protections against fraudulent charges and research the company before you purchase.
