‘Ruck for the fallen:’ Fort McCoy soldiers march in honor of their brothers in arms

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) – Members of the Wisconsin National Guard are taking strides to recognize fallen service members. On Wednesday, May 18, the soldiers marched five miles around Sparta.

The servicemen and women, with Fort McCoy’s 310th Brigade Engineer Battalion, call it a ruck for the fallen.

“Never forgotten. That’s what it’s all about. We want to make sure that we don’t ever forget the veterans that made that ultimate sacrifice,” explains Tim Hyma.

The march ended at Woodlawn cemetery, where the soldiers joined volunteers with American Legion Post 100 to put flags on nearly 700 veterans’ graves ahead of Memorial Day.
