Adames, Renfroe power Brewers to 7-3 win over Reds

CINCINNATI (AP) — Willy Adames and Hunter Renfroe both homered for the second straight day, rookie Jason Alexander earn his first career win and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-3.

The Brewers scored quick, grabbing the lead on an RBI double from Rowdy Tellez in the first inning. Milwaukee extended the lead in the third inning with a two-run home run from Adames that sailed 413 feet to center field.

Jace Peterson drove in two runs with a sixth-inning double on a chopper over the head of leaping first baseman Mike Moustakas that brought home Omar Narváez and Tyrone Taylor. Renfroe added an exclamation point in the seventh with a 409-foot blast to left-center field that sent the fans scrambling.

Alexander allowed one unearned run through five innings of his fourth start before giving up four hits and two runs in the sixth. He was replaced by Miguel Sánchez, who got the final out of the sixth. Trevor Kelley and Hoby Milner also featured in Saturday’s game and both struck out a pair of batters.

The roller-coaster Reds have lost three straight after a three-game winning streak, which followed a four-game slide. The Brewers have now won two in a row and are one game behind St. Louis for first place in the NL Central.

Milwaukee and Cincinnati wrap up their series Sunday starting at 12:40 p.m. CT. Adrian Houser (3-7, 4.21) will start against Reds left-hander Mike Minor (1-2, 7.36).
