‘I can probably fill them in a day’ : Affordable housing complex in Janesville to offer units as low as $350, depending on your income
JANESVILLE, Wis. – The City of Janesville has agreed on a plan that will bring a 92-unit affordable housing complex to near the city’s downtown.
The River Flats complex will offer one, two and three bedroom options for as little as $350 depending on your income, says Housing Services Director Kelly Bedessem.
“We joke with the developer that I can probably fill (the 92 units) in a day,” Bedessem said. “With that being a joke, I think I could.”
Janesville currently has a vacancy rate of less than one percent, which is lower than the average of ten percent.
“New workforce housing is something we have not have built in Janesville in many many years,” said Janesville Economic Development Director Gale Price. “There’s certainly a need for that.”
Construction on the complex could start as early as next week, and will take roughly a year to complete. The location site is adjacent to the Janesville Police Department.
“It’s a beautiful property,” Bedessem said. “It’s of high quality and individuals will be able to enjoy brand new construction.”
