Hundreds of bikes to be given to underserved children
FITCHBURG, Wis. — Hundreds of bikes will be handed out Wednesday evening to underserved children at the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.
Andy Quant, a bike mechanic, started the drive in January after establishing Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison, a nonprofit organization originally based in Minneapolis.
About 400 bikes were donated and repaired by volunteers.
“I think that giving a bike to a kid gives them a sense of ownership and they have something that represents that freedom that gives them the ability to get out and branch out and become more mobile,” Quant said.
People interested in receiving a bike are required to register.
The bike giveaway is from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.
