Hugh George Kelly

Hugh George Kelly

MIDDLETON-Hugh George Kelly, husband, father, and all around wonderful man, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, after a brief illness.

An only child, he was born on May 7, 1932, in Minneapolis, to Hugh and Agnes “Nessie” Kelly. While very young, his family moved to Wauwatosa. He attended Bayview High School and UW-Milwaukee where he met his future wife, Joanne Kleis.

Hugh was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He returned home in 1955 and was married to Joanne on October 15, 1955. Hugh worked for the State of Wisconsin for 31 years, retiring in 1989 as a senior administrator at DILHR. He was a skilled wood worker and craftsman, and upon retirement promptly used his talents to restore his daughter’s farm house. He always made time for his family, and fearlessly took his four small children and wife, in a station wagon without air conditioning, pulling a pop up camper in the middle of summer to the Dakotas for “vacation”. He was a scout leader, Mason and a member of the Middleton Sertoma Club.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Michael (Linden) of Minneapolis, Scott of Sun Prairie, John (Mozelle) of Milwaukee; and daughter, Carolyn (Bob Davis) of Verona. He is also survived by grandchildren, Anna Tedrow, Hugh Douglass Kelly, Robert John Davis and Jack Hugh Davis; as well as grand-nieces Breanne and Kilah.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 10 a.m., at MIDDLETON COMMUNITY CHURCH, 645 Schewe Rd., (corner of Schewe and Old Sauk Rd.), Middleton, with a service at 11 a.m. Pastor James Iliff will be presiding. Inurnment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
