How athletes address struggles with mental health

Simone Biles’ decision to pull out of the team gymnastics finals at the Olympics is adding new urgency to the issue of athletes and mental health.

The spotlight of performing on such a big stage brings plenty of attention, but also unimaginable pressure and can lead to a lot of tough decisions.

Cassie Pasquariello is the director of clinical and sports psychology in the UW-Madison athletic department. She oversees mental health services and sports psychology training for Badger student athletes and joined News 3 Now Live at Four to talk about how athletes cope with all of that stress, and how it affects their overall mental health.
