Hot air balloon stalls over St. Croix River

Fifteen passengers were on board

A hot-air balloon carrying more than a dozen people had to be towed to shore after it stalled over the St. Croix River near Afton.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the balloon was carrying people on a sightseeing trip when it stalled out Saturday night due to a lack of wind over the river.

KARE-TV reported the balloon operator called authorities who happened to have a water patrol boat in the area. The balloon operator was able to lower a rope to officers, who towed the balloon to shore, where it landed safely.

Fifteen passengers were on board. No one was hurt.
