Horse trainer loses dispute over show jumper

Viroqua woman says the Irish Draught's owner gave her away

A Wisconsin horse trainer is on the losing end of a bitter legal dispute over a show jumper.

Amy Hunter of Viroqua trained a sick Irish Draught horse back to health and productivity for a wealthy out-of-state-owner. Hunter that owner, Grace Shaw-Kennedy, of California, was so grateful she told her she could keep him. But after the horse named Cradilo regained Grand Prix show jumping status, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, the owner demanded the horse back.

The Wisconsin Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court decision and ruled in favor of Grace Shaw-Kennedy, of California.

Hunter said it’s been a frustrating legal battle. She said the ruling would have been different in a state where there’s some knowledge of the horse industry.
