‘Hoppy Hour’ promotes adult rabbit adoption

Easter is just around the corner and the Wisconsin House Rabbit Society celebrated early on Sunday.

The event was a play date for local pet rabbits, celebrating animals rescued by the Dane County Humane Society.

But organizers said it’s also a good reminder to residents that they shouldn’t purchase baby bunnies at Easter.

“They’re very vulnerable at that point,” said Renee Stodola, of the Wisconsin House Rabbit Society. “Many of the young rabbits die because they should not be away from their mother that early.”

Event leaders asked people to instead adopt adult rabbits from a rescue or humane society.

Rabbits are the third most common animal surrendered to shelters.
