Homicide trial in Columbia County cold case delayed
A woman accused of murder in a Columbia County cold case will head to trial on Monday.
Leah Jean Waldhart is accused of killing her boyfriend, Curtis Wylesky, of Beaver Dam, in 2001.
Waldhart’s attorney said the trial was postponed because of discovery issues.
The trial was delayed back in January after questions were raised about the analysis of some evidence by the Wisconsin Crime Lab.
Wylesky was found in a ditch off County Road Z outside Fall River on April 23, 2001. His truck was nearby. Investigators said he had been beaten to death, but the case went cold until July 2013, when investigators announced a person of interest.
Authorities exhumed Wylesky’s body at the South Beaver Dam Cemetery in February 2014 after new evidence was found in the killing.
Waldhart and Wilesky were said to be dating around the time of his death and possibly in an abusive relationship.
