Hit-and-run suspect throws beer cans out window during pursuit, police say
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A Beloit man faces his fifth drunken driving charge after he reportedly threw beer cans out his window while fleeing from police, officials said.
A citizen alerted a Janesville police officer around 5:35 p.m. about a hit-and-run crash on West Court Street near Sunny Side Shopping Plaza, according to a release.
The officer saw a vehicle that matched the description and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled at a low rate of speed, officials said.
During the pursuit, officers observed the driver throwing beer cans out of the car window. He eventually stopped the car on South Afton Road.
The driver, Thomas D. Iverson, 60, of Beloit, refused field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. He also faces tentative charges of hit-and-run, fleeing an officer, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, operating left of center and littering.
