Hit-and-run suspect ID’d during OWI arrest, Brodhead police say
Brodhead police identified a suspect in aFriday hit-and-run crash during a traffic stop and drunken-driving arrest on Saturday, officials said.
Brodhead police responded just before 8 a.m. Friday to a report of a car that was hit in the parking lot of a business in the 2100 block of First Center Avenue, according to a release.
The business’ security camera footage showed the crash at 1:44 a.m., officials said. Police were able to get a description of the driver and the car involved.
Brodhead police stopped a car around 2:50 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of 1st Center Avenue for a defective headlight, according to the release.
During the traffic stop, police determined the light had been damaged, and the car and its driver matched the description of the person and car involved in Friday’s hit-and-run crash, officials said.
Police arrested the driver, a 26-year-old Brodhead man, on Saturday for first-offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
An investigator talked Monday with the 26-year-old, who admitted that he was the driver in Friday’s hit-and-run crash. He was cited for hit-and-run to an unattended vehicle.
