Hillary Clinton: ‘We should not nuke hurricanes’
Hillary Clinton on Monday offered a succinct and pithy response to a report that President Donald Trump has suggested dropping nuclear bombs into hurricanes to prevent them from reaching the United States.
“We should not nuke hurricanes,” the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee tweeted.
The response comes following a report by Axios on Sunday that stated Trump told Department of Homeland Security and national security officials to look into dropping a nuclear bomb into the eye of a hurricane to stop it from hitting the US.
“They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they’re moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can’t we do that?” Trump said, according to a source who heard the remarks.
Trump denied he made the claim and called the story “ridiculous” in a tweet on Monday.
In an article, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said bombing a hurricane “is not a good idea” and by doing so “radioactive fallout would fairly quickly move with the tradewinds to affect land areas and cause devastating environmental problems.”
