The family then moved to a dairy farm in the Readstown, Wisconsin area in Vernon County where she spent her childhood and teenage years. She attended grade school at the Sherry one room school house in Readstown, graduated from high school at the age of 16 from the Soldiers Grove High School and then graduated from the Vernon County Teacher’s College at 18. She then taught at the Ottervale one room school house in LaFarge, Wisconsin for the next two years. She married Kenneth Myron Peterson on June 4, 1939 at her parent’s farm house in Readstown and moved to Viroqua, then to LaCrosse and then to Madison where her husband was a store manager for the Kroger Food Company.
