Highway 12 near Cambridge reopens after fatal crash
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said a head-on fatal crash blocked the east and westbound lanes of Highway 12 near Rodney Road in Cambridge Tuesday morning.
Sheriff deputies said it happened at about 3:50 a.m. near Rodney Road just west of the Village of Cambridge. Highway 12 was reopened around 7 a.m.
A vehicle traveling west on Highway 12 reportedly crossed the centerline and hit a vehicle heading east head-on. The Dane County Sheriff says both cars started on fire, trapping both drivers inside.
Highway 12 remained closed while deputies and the Wisconsin State Patrol investigated the crash. Traffic was detoured onto State Highway 134 in Cambridge.
The names of the people killed in the crash will be released once family can be notified.
