Herbert Jacob Muehlemann
Our father, Herbert Jacob Muehlemann, age 95, was reunited with his loving wife, Betty, on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving daughters, Jackie, Jean and Gerry.
Herb was the youngest of 13 children born to Swiss immigrants, Fred and Marie Muehlemann, on Sept. 19, 1922, in Primrose, Wis. Dad was in the U.S. Army Air Force serving as a waist gunner during World War II in Italy. He was proud to have shaken hands with Pope Pius XII during his stay. Over the years, our parents attended many of the 485th bomb group reunions all over the United States. Herb was honored by attending the Badger Honor Flight on Sept. 8, 2013. Herb married Elizabeth “Betty” Middleton on May 29, 1945, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Middleton. Together they had three daughters, Jacqueline Joyce (Len) Becker, Jean Marie Muehlemann and Geraldine “Gerry” Ross. Herb worked for Oscar Mayer for 38 years, along with many other part-time jobs. He volunteered with R.E.A.D.I. group, VFW Post No. 216-Middleton and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Herb was always a busy man. He loved woodworking, completing many projects, fixing small engines, gardening, antique tractors, his 20 acres of land, bowling in his younger years, putzing in the garage, in the house and anywhere where he was needed. He was a supporter of the Middleton Home Talent baseball team for many years. Herb was an avid Cubs fan. His greatest success was joining Alcoholics Anonymous in January 1980 and continuing his sobriety to the end. Dad had a special relationship with each of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his three daughters and son-in-law, Len, he is survived by his grandchildren, Brian Becker, Sheila Trzebny, Shannon Becker, Brenda Arnett, Jon Becker, Joie Muehlenbruch, Jillene Anderson, Tony Ross, and Michael Ross; great-grandchildren, Kelly and Zach Herson, Nicholas Arnett, MyKenzie and Ayden Anderson, Jesalyn and Jaxyn Muehlenbruch, Abbie, Dayna and Maribel Ross.
Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty; granddaughter, Deanna Ross; parents, Fred and Marie; sisters, Hannah Jelle, Betty Venden, Mary Sandridge, and Melvina Williams; brothers, Johnny, Werner and William Muehlemann and their spouses.
