Henry Vilas Zoo to host vaccine clinic for International Red Panda Day celebration
MADISON, Wis. — In an effort to protect both humans and animals, the Henry Vilas Zoo will host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic as part of its International Red Panda Day celebration.
The clinic will be held on zoo grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and is open to anyone 12 and older. Both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available.
“Many of the animals at Henry Vilas Zoo are susceptible to COVID,” Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said. “Getting the vaccine is the easiest way to help protect our community and our animal friends at the Zoo.”
Anyone who gets vaccinated at the event will get to take advantage of the zoo’s Education Pavilion where workers will have animal ambassadors out to see and interact with. Everyone who gets a shot will also be entered to win a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo, which will include information on how the zoo is protecting animals from COVID-19.
“We know shots can be scary, especially for younger people,” Outreach Coordinator Kristin Moala said. “We’re hoping that by providing a fun environment we can help ease some of those fears. It’s also a great way to educate people about the connection between wildlife trafficking and zoonotic diseases.”
More information about the vaccine clinic and other events the zoo is hosting to celebrate International Red Panda Day is available on the zoo’s website.
